We are planning to list our house for sale in a few months, but our budget for exterior updates is pretty tight right now. The front lawn is decent, but the porch looks a bit tired and the landscaping is definitely overgrown. I want to make a good first impression without spending thousands on professional contractors or major renovations. Has anyone had success with DIY projects that actually made a noticeable difference to buyers? I'm open to any suggestions on paint, lighting, or cheap garden hacks.

A fresh coat of paint on the front door makes a world of difference. Pick a bold, welcoming color that contrasts with your siding. It costs less than $50 and takes an afternoon.

I agree with the door paint idea! I went with a deep navy blue, and it completely changed the look of my porch.

Don't underestimate the power of power washing. Rent one for a day and hit the driveway, sidewalks, and the siding. It makes everything look brand new for cheap.

Exactly! Power washing the driveway is a game changer. It feels like you've added $5k in value just by cleaning the concrete.

For the overgrown landscaping, just get some sharp hedge trimmers and clear out the dead stuff. Mulch is your best friend-a few bags of fresh dark mulch will make your garden beds look professionally maintained instantly.

Adding to the mulch tip: make sure you edge the beds properly. A clean line between the grass and the mulch makes the whole yard look intentional.

Change your house numbers! If they are old or plastic, buy some modern, larger ones from a hardware store. It makes the house look much more updated.

I second the house numbers. I actually spray-painted my old brass ones matte black and they look like high-end designer ones now.

Check your exterior lighting. If you have those old, rusty lanterns, swap them out for something modern. You can find decent ones on Amazon for pretty cheap.

Don't forget to plant some cheap annuals in pots by the front door. It adds a pop of color that really welcomes potential buyers.

I tried the potted plants idea last year, but make sure they match the style of the house. Too many different colors can look cluttered.

Clean your windows inside and out. It sounds basic, but it lets in so much more light and makes the house feel cleaner and more inviting from the curb.
